Roslyn Number 4 Mine Contaminated

Forterra Secures nearly $1.8 Million EPA Grant to Clean Up Historic Roslyn Mine

Forterra has secured a $1.78 million Brownfields Cleanup Grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to clean up the contaminated Roslyn Number 4 Mine.

This is the wetlands area behind the Roslyn City Hall and Fire Station.

Details here: Awarded Roslyn Grant – Forterra

…the land polluted with hazardous heavy metals and petroleum hydrocarbons.

— Forterra

Is Forterra referring to heavy metals such as lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic, and chromium that are toxic even at low concentrations?

Are these the Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPHs) that Forterra mentioned? – TPHs are a complex mixture of chemicals derived from crude oil, including benzene, toluene, xylene, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)?

Possible Exposure Routes:
Breathing contaminated air
Drinking polluted water
Eating contaminated food
Skin contact with spills or residues

Both heavy metals and petroleum hydrocarbons pose significant health risks when consumed or absorbed by the human body. These substances are not safe for ingestion or prolonged exposure, and efforts should be made to minimize contact, especially in occupational or environmental settings…

Now here is where it gets interesting: If forterra was able to convince the EPA to grant them nearly $1.8 MILLION dollars… they (forterra) must have proved or at least convinced the EPA that Roslyn residents and/or tourists are at risk of exposure to something not good.

Roll the lawsuit ads… “Hi, My name is Herky with the Herky & Hukelputz Law Firm. If you and or a family member (real or imagined) have been impacted by the Roslyn Number 4 Mine Contaminants, you may be entitled to money.”
